About the Event
COREtex is YNA’s upcoming online workshop which will help build strong foundations in key science skills that you can use in a range of situations - from your uni assignments all the way to a career in research! Our workshop will consist of three sessions, which will give you the opportunity to develop and apply your understanding of different science skills - Science Communication, Common Statistical Tests and Machine Learning & Neural Networks. The first two sessions each consist of two breakouts, and you are able to select which breakout to attend. So you’ll be able to mix and match the breakouts to suit your educational needs! Follow our Facebook event page for more information about our speakers and the event.
The Science Communication session offers a ‘Written Communication’ breakout and ‘Verbal Communication’ breakout session, while Common Statistical Tests will give you the choice of engaging with ‘Statistics in Medicine’ or an ‘Intro to General Stats’. Click 'see all' under the 'schedule' heading for more detail about each breakout! The workshop will conclude with a discussion on the use of machine learning and neural networks in research today, led by an esteemed researcher in the field! The other breakouts will be led by our YNA team members and science professionals, including Dr Boris Guennewig and PhD candidate Amy Sarker!
Plus, you will receive a bonus booklet with summary notes, including on how to structure a research paper and common statistical tests!
Our workshop will be informative, interactive and - most importantly - fun! Undergraduate university students from all fields and universities and interested high school students are welcome!
Please note that this event, including the summary notes, is free! YNA strives to make all our programs as widely accessible as possible to our high school and undergraduate audiences, including in regional, remote and rural areas, and aims to deliver our programs for free. We would greatly appreciate a charitable donation to enable us to provide innovative, educational resources and workshops for high school students and our undergraduate audience! Any donation amount is greatly appreciated. Please note that donations are not tax deductible.
